[16:98] When you read the Quran, you shall seek refuge in GOD from Satan the rejected.
O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you, as it was decreed for those before you, that you may attain salvation.(2:183)
Specific days (are designated for fasting); if one is ill or traveling, an equal number of other days may be substituted. Those who can fast, but with great difficulty, may substitute feeding one poor person for each day of breaking the fast. If one volunteers (more righteous works), it is better. But fasting is the best for you, if you only knew. (2:184)
You may eat and drink until the white thread of light becomes distinguishable from the dark thread of night at dawn. Then, you shall fast until sunset. (Al-Quran)
Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings, and the statute book. Those of you who witness this month shall fast therein. Those who are ill or traveling may substitute the same number of other days. GOD wishes for you convenience, not hardship, that you may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify GOD for guiding you, and to express your appreciation. (2:185)
Surah Al-Qadr (The Night of Power)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious Most Merciful.
1. Verily, We have sent it down in the Night of Al-Qadr
2. And What will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is?
3. The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.
4. Therein descend the angels and the Ruh by their Lord’s permission with every matter.
5. There is peace until the appearance of dawn.
Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those who believe in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves; and they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat); and they keep their word whenever they make a promise; and they steadfastly persevere in the face of persecution, hardship, and war. These are the truthful. (2:177)

Statement by the Prime Minister on Eid al-Fitr
May 23, 2020
Ottawa, Ontario
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Eid al-Fitr:
“Tonight at sunset, Muslims in Canada and around the world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan—the holy month of fasting and prayer.
“One of the most important festivals in Islam, Eid al-Fitr is a time to give thanks and show compassion to those in need. To celebrate the occasion, Muslims will usually attend special morning prayers, share meals with loved ones, and give generously to others.
“This year, many Eid traditions and celebrations are different as we continue to fight COVID-19. Just as they did throughout Ramadan, Muslim Canadians will pray at home and turn to virtual ways to mark this special day. By following the advice of public health experts, we will get through these challenging times together.
“Throughout Ramadan, Muslim Canadians have been helping those in need with donations of food and supplies, and many of those fasting have been fighting back against the pandemic as medical and essential workers.
“For all of us, Eid al-Fitr is an opportunity to recognize how Muslim Canadians continue to shape our country for the better, and to celebrate the diversity that makes us who we are.
“On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those celebrating a joyful Eid.
“Eid Mubarak.”

Statement by the Prime Minister on Eid al-Adha
August 10, 2019
Ottawa, Ontario
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Eid al-Adha:
“Today, Muslims in Canada and around the world mark the end of the Hajj and celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
“Eid al-Adha is a time for families and loved ones to come together to pray, share a meal, and celebrate life’s blessings.
“It is also a chance to reflect on values like community service, compassion, and generosity. Whether supporting a local charity or being there for neighbours in need, Muslim Canadians show us the best of those values all year round.
“Today, let’s celebrate Canada’s Muslim communities, and the many contributions they make to shape our country for the better.
“On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those celebrating a wonderful Eid al-Adha.
“Eid Mubarak!”

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Eid al-Fitr:
“Tonight at sunset, Muslims in Canada and around the world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

“This festival is also a chance to honour the values at the heart of Islam – from service and generosity to peace and compassion. Whether it’s volunteering at a food bank or supporting local charities, Muslim Canadians show us the best of those values, all throughout the year.
“Today, let’s celebrate the many contributions Muslim Canadians make to our country. Our government will always stand with Canada’s Muslim communities. We will continue to fight against Islamophobia and hatred in all its forms, and together, we’ll keep building a better Canada.
